More brilliant political maneuvering from the folks who brought you Ned Lamont, and of course, the Sheehan/Emanuel catfight today.
The Connecticut for Lieberman Party, the minor political party created by Sen. Joe Lieberman for his successful independent bid for re-election, has been taken over by a longtime critic of the senator.
Fairfield University political science professor John Orman's takeover has been recognized by Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.
Orman is the sole member of the party and filed paperwork with Bysiewicz's office naming himself chairman. The state officials accepted Orman's takeover and his bylaws which limit membership to critics of the senator and anyone named Lieberman.
"If someone wanted to challenge it, they'd have to go to court," Ted Bromley, a state elections attorney for Bysiewicz's office said Tuesday.
The response from the Lieberman camp: "Umm, we can't for the life of us think of a reason to care about that, since the Senator is, you know, a Senator." Well, that's paraphrased, technically.
The big plans:
Orman plans to hold a meeting later this month to bolster the party's ranks.
"I'll send an e-mail to critics, bloggers, opponents (of the senator's) and maybe anyone named Lieberman," Orman said.

Connecticut for Lieberman meet-up in the junior high cafeteria this Tuesday at 8 p.m. We'll awkwardly introduce each other, seethe a bit about the fact that Bushitler's henchman is our senator, and exchange MySpaces and Daily Kos handles, all under the depressing glow of fluorescent lights and the oppressive smell of Monday's Sloppy Joe's.
Orman has already adorned the Connecticut for Lieberman website with all the hallmarks of a triumphant campaign-- a picture of "the kiss," and lots of talk about George Bush. Oughtta work wonders in 2010 and 2012-- the next chances to knock off senators in Connecticut. It'll be so refreshingly retro after Bush has been out of office for 2-4 years.
In all seriousness, although Orman sounds something less than threatening, it's silly to let a domain name get away from you like that. I'm not sure what Lieberman planned to do with the party, or whether he planned to run again under that banner, but this issue could have been easily avoided.

You'll also be glad to know that Mr. Orman is also a political science professor quoted by the local Connecticut MSM without noting his political affiliations and activism. Classic.
