CNN Loses It Over DOJ Dropping Flynn Case

CNN had a meltdown on Thursday when news broke that the Department of Justice dropped its case against Michael Flynn after documents revealed the FBI set a perjury trap for Trump’s former national security adviser. The network’s commentators lashed out that the decision was “unprecedented” and an “absolute injustice”, saying the “fix is in.”

“Well, now today, in really what is a remarkable move by the Department of Justice, and just really unprecedented, after someone has been cooperating, after someone has pleaded guilty, was a government witness, for them to turn around and do this today, I’m not going to tell you that anyone is surprised by this move but it’s certainly unprecedented,” said CNN crime and justice correspondent Shimon Prokupecz.

Baldwin then cut away to ask what CNN legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Elie Honig made of the news.

“Brooke, the fix is in,” Honig replied. “This is an absolute injustice. But like Shimon says, you could see this coming. But let’s just remember the basics here. Michael Flynn lied to the FBI, he pled guilty under oath in federal court to doing that, he took a plea, and then what does Bill Barr do? He says of all the tens of thousands of cases that he’s been in charge of in the Department of Justice, look at that one. Let’s take a closer look at that one. Not coincidentally, the same one the President has been railing on for months and years now. And now we see Bill Barr really just doing Donald Trump’s dirty work. Now Donald Trump is not going to have to issue a pardon because Bill Barr has stepped in and taken this really unprecedented step. I never saw anything like this in my 14 years as a federal or state prosecutor.”

Of course, CNN wasn't alone in losing its mind over the news. Similar sentiments were seen across the network and over at MSNBC, too.

President Trump called Flynn an "innocent man" and one who was "targeted by the Obama administration ... in order to try and take down a president."

He said he hopes a "big price" is paid after the Flynn saga.

"I hope a lot of people are going to pay a big price because they are dishonest, crooked people. They are scum and I say it a lot, they are scum, they are human scum," Trump told reporters.

"The Obama administration Justice Department was a disgrace and they got caught, they got caught, very dishonest people but much more than dishonest, it is treason, it is treason," Trump said. "So I am very happy for General Flynn. He was a great warrior and he still is a great warrior. Now in my book he is an even greater warrior."
