Sen. Rand Paul on Thursday argued the real scandal about the 2016 presidential election may be that senior Obama administration officials tried to prevent President Trump from being elected.
"Time to investigate high ranking Obama government officials who might have colluded to prevent the election of @realDonaldTrump! This could be WORSE than Watergate!" he tweeted Thursday morning.

Paul did not go into details, nor did he write any follow-up tweets on the matter, but the message comes after two top FBI officials investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election were revealed to have sent anti-Trump text messages.
On "America's Newsroom," Paul pointed out that FBI official Peter Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe after his anti-Trump text messages surfaced.
Paul noted that Strzok, who was also a key player in the Hillary Clinton email investigation, in one text message seemed to reference FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and an “insurance policy” against a Trump presidency.
He added there are also questions about the connections between the Justice Department and Fusion GPS, which was paid by the Clinton campaign and the DNC to produce a dossier on alleged Trump-Russia ties.
“We’ve had this investigation about Russian collusion, maybe we need an investigation about high-ranking Obama officials colluding to try to prevent Trump from being president,” Paul said. “That’s more serious than even Watergate.” (Fox News Insider)

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was asked about Paul's tweet during a press briefing Thursday, agreed with the Kentucky Republican.
“It’s something that certainly should be looked at,” she said.
