Las Vegas Shooter's Brother Speaks Out

The brother of suspected Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock has spoken out, telling police in a statement that he was “completely dumbfounded” by the mass shooting.

“We are completely dumbfounded,” said Eric Paddock, who lives in Orlando. “We can’t understand what happened.”

Paddock also told the DailyMail.com that something happened to his brother.

There was "absolutely no indication he could do something like this," Eric said, adding that the motives are unclear.

"He has no political affiliation, no religious affiliation, as far as we know. This wasn't a terror attack," he said. "He was just a guy. Something happened, he snapped or something," he continued.

Eric reiterated what he said in his statement to police, that he was "dumbfounded."

"We know absolutely nothing, this is just, we are dumbfounded," he said. "We have absolutely no idea. Our condolences go to the victims and all their families."

He also said he and his brother did not speak very often, but noted that his family is trying to cope with news of the mass shooting.

"He's my brother, we don't have a very close relationship but we talk occasionally. There's no rhyme or reason here, it makes no sense," he continued, saying that his mother is "in shock" over the news.

SHOOTING

"My mother is 90 years old, lives down the street from me, we're just completely dumbfounded," Eric told the DailyMail. "Our family is OK, we're sitting in here in our house hoping that everyone doesn't attack us."

Stephen Paddock is accused of killing at least 50 people. More than 400 others were taken to hospitals for injuries.

Concertgoers were listening to country music star Jason Aldean Sunday night as part of a three-day Route 91 Harvest Festival when Paddock began shooting from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
