Lieberman: Trump Never Demanded Loyalty From Me During FBI Job Talks

Former Sen. Joe Lieberman, who was at one point a top contender for the role of FBI director, said in his discussions with President Trump about the job, the president never demanded loyalty from him.

"I can say he did not make any demand like that at all,” Lieberman told CNN’s Erin Burnett. “In fact, you might say the contrary,” he added.

His comments come after former FBI Director James Comey released his opening statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday in which he said Trump told him over a dinner at the White House in January that he expected loyalty.

“…A few moments later, the President said, “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” I didn’t move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the awkward silence that followed. We simply looked at each other in silence.  The conversation then moved on, but he returned to the subject near the end of our dinner,” Comey wrote.
