Sen. Cotton Warns GOP Health Care Plan Could Put House Majority at Risk

Since the House’s Obamacare replacement plan came out, Sen. Tom Cotton has been warning that it will not be able to pass the Senate without major changes. But that’s not all he’s concerned about.

Speaking with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” Sunday, Cotton said the bill could actually jeopardize the House’s majority in 2018.

"I don't want to see the House majority put at risk on a bill that is not going to pass the Senate," he said. "That's why I think we should take a pause, try to solve as many of the problems on both Medicaid and the individual insurance market in this bill in the House and then allow the Senate to take its work up."

If House Republicans rush to pass it, however, there will be consequences for their vote, he said.

"I would say to my friends in the House of Representatives with whom I serve, do not walk the plank and vote for a bill that cannot pass the Senate and then have to face the consequences of that vote," he added.

House Speaker Paul Ryan countered his conservative critics on Sunday and said “if we don’t act, the system is going to collapse."
