Schumer: Dems Will Work Hard to Ensure 'Trumpcare' Is Defeated

Democrats wasted no time in slamming the GOP’s Obamacare replacement plan, which was released Monday.

“This bill is a giveaway to the wealthy and insurance companies at the expense of American families, and Senate Democrats will work hard to see that it is defeated,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

The Republicans’ plan gets rid of the employer and individual mandates, establishes a new tax credit system, and undoes Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, among other changes.

Schumer, who dubbed the plan “Trumpcare,” said the bills “[force] millions of Americans to pay more for less care.”

“To make matters worse, this sham of a replacement would rip treatment away from hundreds of thousands of Americans dealing with opioid addiction, breaking the President’s word that he would expand treatment, not cut it,” Schumer said.

House Democrats also criticized the plan, with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi saying the replacement bill is the "Make America Sick Again" act.

"Tonight, Republicans revealed a Make America Sick Again bill that hands billionaires a massive new tax break while shifting huge costs and burdens onto working families," Pelosi said in statement.
