Whoopi Goldberg Advises Ocasio-Cortez to 'Sit Still for a Minute and Learn the Job' Before 'Pooping on People'

“View” host Whoopi Goldberg had some friendly, but strongly-worded, advice for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) Monday following a busy week of media attention for the 29-year-old member of Congress.

In a “60 Minutes” interview Sunday, Anderson Cooper asked Ocasio-Cortez about her support of Democratic primary candidates who will unseat incumbent Democrats.

“It’s absolutely risky,” she acknowledged, “it requires risk to try something new, but also we-we know so much of what we’ve tried in the past hasn’t worked, either.”

Goldberg praised Rep. Ocasio-Cortez as an “opinionated woman, which we like,” before launching into some criticism.

“I just want to throw this out to you,” she said, “[Rep.] John Lewis (D-GA) wasn’t sitting still. [Sen.] Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) wasn’t sitting still.”

“You could learn some stuff from them,” she continued. “You don’t have to be born into it. You don’t have to know it when you step out, but before you start pooping on people and what they’ve done, you got to do something too.”

“You can’t poop on what was when you coming in on the shoulders of quite a few giants,” she emphasized.

“There are a whole bunch of people in the Democratic Party who have been busting their a**es to make sure that women get what they need, people get what they need, children get what they need,” she claimed.

“So you just got in there and I know you got lots of good ideas, but I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job,” Goldberg advised the newly-sworn in Congresswoman.

Ocasio-Cortez has had a few brushes with Democratic leadership in the House. She has repeatedly pointed to the “need to elect a generation of new people to Congress in both parties.”

She has found herself at odds with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in her push for a “Green New Deal” on climate change. Pelosi did not give in to any of Ocasio-Cortez’s demands regarding the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
