Club for Growth Launches Million Dollar Ad Campaign to Put Pressure on Moderates for Obamacare Repeal

After getting behind the latest compromise on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) last week, the conservative group Club for Growth, announced a million-dollar ad campaign Monday to urge moderate Republicans to “come on board” so that the legislation can get passed.

David McIntosh, President of the Club for Growth, told reporters that the compromise deal on the AHCA, spearheaded by Vice President Mike Pence, allowing states to ask for waivers of costly Obamacare regulations, is “the right way to go.”

McIntosh called the legislation “a solution that can be a win-win,” because it allows the states that want waivers from Obamacare regulations to ask for them, while allowing the regulations to remain in place for the states that want them.

The national TV ad which will run Tuesday says the end of Obamacare will be “a big win for American families, and our economy,” and urges viewers to “Tell Congress – support Trump’s plan to get rid of Obamacare.”

The group will also run ads later this week in the House districts of ten moderates who have publicly expressed opposition to the current Obamacare repeal legislation.

McIntosh named two of these moderates: Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY).

Kinzinger and Collins both blamed the House Freedom Caucus for the bill’s initial failure.

Andy Roth, Club for Growth’s Vice President, said the ad campaign will be "specifically calling on them to support the repeal of Obamacare that they campaigned on," and will call out the congressmen by name.

The group declined to name the eight other moderates the ads will be targeting, saying that will become clear when the ads run Thursday.
