With less than an hour and a half to go, looks like a budget compromise is taking shape. As reported earlier, the bill would cut spending by $39 billion and not eliminate spending for Planned Parenthood. The GOP is having a meeting as we blog to discuss the ongoing negotiations.
Even as all of this leaks out, lawmakers and spokesmen insist that negotiations are ongoing. There are two things going on here: one, there would likely be a continuing resolution for funding for a few days while both sides hammer out the exact resolution to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year. The full-year bill would, as mentioned above, cut tens of billions of dollars, fund the troops and fund Planned Parenthood.
Speaker John Boehner reportedly told the GOP caucus, "This is the best deal we could get." Will that be enough to placate his caucus? Controversial leader of the controversial "Tea Party Nation" (a group that is recognized in no capacity to be an 'official' tea party organization) claims that they'll primary Boehner next year.
Nothing's official. As I noted earlier, even a single disgruntled Senator could hold everything up by not agreeing to unanimous consent. The fight's not over.
