So, About Those Troops Leaving Afghanistan by 2014

Last week during the vice presidential debate in Danville, Vice President Joe Biden said he "means what he says." Biden also said it was a "fact" U.S. forces in Afghanistan would be gone by 2014.

"We are leaving, we are leaving 2014. Period."

Yesterday, reports were confirmed that the State Department is getting ready to extend troops in Afghanistan past 2014.

Despite statements by Vice President Joe Biden, the State Department is about to begin formal negotiations over the extension of U.S. troops past 2014, a top State Department official said Tuesday.

Last week, U.S. and Afghan negotiators met in Kabul to talk about the Bilateral Security Agreement that will govern the extension of U.S. troops past 2014, when President Barack Obama said the combat mission in Afghanistan will end and the U.S. will complete the transition of the entire country to Afghan government control.

FLASHBACK:

Obama: "By 2014, this process of transition will be complete and the Afghan people will be responsible for their own security."

Biden: "We're keeping our promises."

In addition to breaking his 2014 promise, Joe Biden also broke the promise he made to Barack Obama before the vp debate to "tell the truth."
