Bad News for Obama: 35 Percent of Union Members Want Romney

Despite AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka being one of President Obama's most frequent guests at the White House, union members aren't going all in for Obama in November. According to a new Gallup poll, 35 percent of union members plan to support Mitt Romney.

A majority of union members say they would vote for Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential race, although their support is by no means monolithic. While 57% of union workers who are registered to vote would support Obama, 35% would vote for Mitt Romney. Workers who are not union members tilt toward Romney over Obama, 48% to 44%.

This poll comes just after 38 percent of union households voted for Republican Governor Scott Walker in last week's recall election.
