Obama Takes Jobs Campaign to West Coast

President Obama will continue his taxpayer funded campaign jobs tour this week on the west coast.

President Barack Obama is heading west Monday morning to pitch his American Jobs Act in Las Vegas and speak at campaign events there and in California.

While in Las Vegas, he will speak at a campaign event and will then meet with homeowners at a private residence to talk about his jobs proposal now before Congress.

Then, the president will travel to Los Angeles, where he will talk at two campaign events at private homes.

FLASHBACK 2010:

A careless remark by President Barack Obama about Las Vegas has triggered a furious backlash from Nevada’s cash-strapped gambling city and a key Democratic ally fighting a tough re-election battle in the state.

Speaking about the economy at an event in New Hampshire, Mr Obama told Americans: “When times are tough, you tighten your belts.

“You don’t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don’t blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you’re trying to save for college. You prioritise. You make tough choices.”

The economy of the world’s most famous gambling and entertainment destination is heavily dependent on tourism and Las Vegans were already incensed by a comment from Mr Obama last year that companies should not use federal bail out money for trips to the city.

Tourism and casino officials said the comment hurt the city after companies cancelled meetings in Las Vegas and re-arranged them elsewhere .

Meanwhile, Obama is again pushing for the government to get involved with the housing industry.

President Barack Obama will unveil new measures to help struggling U.S. homeowners on Monday in the first leg of a campaign-style swing through western states that may be crucial to his re-election in 2012.

They include an initiative to help homeowners refinance their mortgages, which Obama will discuss in Nevada, a state hit hard by the housing crisis.

And no, this isn't a campaign tour, promise:

Each has large populations of Hispanics, a voting bloc Obama's campaign is eager to win over.
