Michelle Obama Orders 1700 Calorie Meal, Will Grace Mag Cover Promoting Healthy Eating

Do as I say, not as I do.

Maybe First Lady Michelle Obama should take her husband's advice and "eat her peas," rather than indulge in burgers, fries and milkshakes while preaching (and spending millions in taxpayer dollars for her Let's Move campaign) to the rest of us how to feed ourselves and our children.

First lady Michelle Obama ordered a whopper of a meal at the newly opened Washington diner Shake Shack during lunch on Monday.

A Washington Post journalist on the scene confirmed the first lady, who’s made a cause out of child nutrition, ordered a ShackBurger, fries, chocolate shake and a Diet Coke while the street and sidewalk in front of the usually-packed Shake Shack were closed by security during her visit.

According to nutritional information on Shake Shack’s Web site, the meal amounted to 1,700 calories.

I mean really what was the point of ordering the Diet Coke? To prevent reaching the 2,000 calorie (the average caloric intake per day) marker in one meal?

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama will grace the cover of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine to do what? Promote healthy eating for children.

Better Homes and Gardens will feature First Lady Michelle Obama on the cover of its August issue - the first public figure to grace the magazine's cover in 48 years.

Obama will be the focus of an article on healthful eating for children. The issue will hit newsstands July 19.

Editors from the magazine, which is owned by Des Moines-based Meredith Corp., and the first lady co-hosted a picnic in May for D.C. fifth-graders. The magazine features photos of the picnic and an interview with Obama about her efforts to promote healthful habits.

Bottom line: Americans wouldn't care about the food choices of Michelle Obama if she wasn't constantly telling the rest of us how to eat "healthy." If she wants her anti-childhood obesity campaign and calls for adults to properly feed their children healthy meals to be taken seriously, she must lead by example.

For the record, I fully embrace a good American meal of a burger, fries and a milkshake every once in a while.
