Arizona State Senator Switches to Republican Party

A State Senator in Arizona has announced that he is switching parties.

Carlyle Begay announced yesterday that he is leaving the Democratic Party in favor of becoming a Republican. Begay said that the Republican party better reflects the values of self-determination and self-empowerment that he holds and wants to emphasize in his district. 

Begay is part of the Navajo tribe and represents Arizona’s 7^th District and also represents the tribal communities that are consumed with rampant unemployment and poverty.

Begay was appointed to the Arizona State Senate in 2013 and was reelected in 2014.
