The Biden administration and its allies in Congress have been taking a victory lap since the end of Title 42, saying there is no longer an acute problem at the U.S.-Mexico border because the number of illegal crossings have drastically decreased.
Their claims are based on how the Biden administration is using the CBP One app to allow people – many of whom don't qualify for asylum – into the United States instead of crossing illegally, but it ignores the reality on the ground. Yes, illegal border crossings are down from the extreme high they were at a few months ago, but they are still higher than they have been under previous presidents.
In Eagle Pass, Texas, illegal crossings have reached daily highs once again as migrants in Mexico are tired of waiting for slots in the CBP One app, if it works at all.
In the last 4 days, illegal border crossings between the ports of entry have exceeded 5k daily. As a result, this contributes to an increased risk of drownings, heat exposure, extortion from criminal smugglers, & unaccompanied children.

The Biden administration solely focusing on the numbers of illegal crossings is a bait and switch; they are using a dubious solution to try to make it appear as though the southern border is no longer facing a historic crisis of their own making. As long as Joe Biden is in the White House, this will be a constant problem and it will continue to be a problem long after he is no longer in power.
