Activists are using their clout to save Julian Assange from an untimely internet-death, opening up their servers to host Assange's material in the event that the WikiLeaks site is shut down. One group, calling itself "

Anonymous," is leading the defense. Oddly, Anonymous has also targeted the Church of Scientology as one of their other targets. Here's part of their mission statement:
Our strength lies in our numbers. Our will as a whole is the combined will of individuals. Our greatest advantage is a knowledge of the fundamentals we share as human beings.
Major internet forces like Amazon and PayPal have abandoned WikiLeaks, and Assange's defenders claim his internet freedom is being violated in the process. The U.S. government is behind the push for censorship, putting us in direct conflict with the Swiss government, which is providing him with a financial safe haven.
