Roll Call's 50 Richest Members of Congress

Nine of the top twelve are Democrats - the members who are so rich that their wealth dwarfs the other thirty-eight wealthiest members. But overall, Democrats and Republicans are split about even in terms of which party is on the list more often.

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.), the seventh-richest, made his money as an internet entrepreneur, as well as through his Blue Mountain Arts greeting card business and a start-up internet flower delivery business. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), the 26th richest, owns property in Virginia, North Carolina, and New York, but was about $5 million poorer after the death of her husband in 2009. He died attempting to climb Tibet’s Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth-highest peak.
