On April 30th, Obama arbitrarily says that no new drilling will take place until the cause of the Deepwater Horizon spill is known. On June 11th, the experts who advised President Obama on a national policy for future offshore drilling accused Obama of misrepresenting their views to make it seem like they supported a drilling moratorium. They actually didn't support any moratorium.

On June 22nd, a judge ruled that any moratorium was illegal (this WSJ piece is well worth a read to understand the breadth of that ruling). On the same day, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar declared he would still re-institute a drilling moratorium. Since then, lawmakers and analysts alike have stepped forward to explain that if the moratorium is allowed to go forward, the gulf oil industry will not be able to survive.
What happens now? Thousands of workers will be laid off, and millions of additional gallons of oil will not be available to U.S. markets, increasing our foreign energy dependence and crippling our economy. Sounds like a complete reversal of Obama's state energy goals.
