Newt, Liz Cheney Headline Sunny SRLC

The weather is warm and conservatives are kicking back at the schmoozy, boozy wonderland of the Southern Republican Leadership conference. Newt Gingrich, Liz Cheney, Mary Matalin, and J.C. Watts headlined the evening festivities here in New Orleans, with planned appearances from Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, and Michael Steele.

Newt was the star tonight. Saying Republicans were "at an unusual moment in American history," his intense condemnations of the Obama Administration were seconded only by his Presidentialish-optimism about the Republican Party. He laid on rhetoric about repealing health care and the importance of self-reliance and the American dream.
