If you didn't catch this, it's worth a read. After heated debate, the Senate has voted to strip funding from the highly controversial F-22 program. Defense Secretary Robert Gates fought tooth and nail against a legion of Senators in districts that stood to benefit from the F-22 production process, and he won.

I see Brian McAfee's point over at Conservativepundits.com, that "we have already spent billions of R&D and pre-production for the F22," so "we might as well just purchase them now while they are at their cheapest." At the same time, we're already starting production of the F-35, so the so-called air power "gap" really doesn't seem that bad.
