Wole Soyinka Gives Up Green Card After Trump Victory

Wole Soyinka, Africa’s first Nobel Prize winner in literature, is sticking to his word. Before the election, Soyinka threatened to abolish his American green card if Donald Trump were to win the presidency.

Not long ago, Soyinka informed his students he would “tear up” his green card and “start packing” should Trump win. While a Nigerian national, Soyinka has spent many years teaching at American colleges and universities such as Cornell, Harvard, Yale, Emory, and others.

Soyinka spoke to CNN regarding the fulfillment of his promise: "I did exactly what I said I was going to do, which is how I always operate. It was a personal thing and I did everything I had to do personally."

His safe space shaken to the core - when Soyinka realized Trump had a good chance of winning, he said he began to scream and prepare himself for the inevitable.

Soyinka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986, the first African to be named in this category.

It should be noted that he is the only known "celebrity" to follow through on his promise to leave America if Trump won the presidency. Amy Schumer, Lena Dunham, Barbara Streisand, and countless other celebrities vowed to leave the United States. Unlike them, Soyinka appears to be keeping his word.
