Gaddafi Shot?

Rumors are circulating that Muammar Gaddafi has been shot, causing oil prices to drop more than $2 per barrel:

Traders said oil prices fell by more than $2 a barrel in late Thursday activity on rumors Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had been shot.

There was no immediate indication of where the rumor had originated or any news report to substantiate it.

Update: A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, says that there is no reason to believe that Gaddafi is dead.
