Israel Fires at Syria

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have fired a warning shot at Syria, after a Syrian shell landed in the Golan Heights for the second time in recent days. This marks the first time Israel has fired on Syria since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. There was only one round of fire shot because there was only one mortar found, but if this continues they will no longer abide by that policy.

A spokesman for the IDF said, “In light of the policy instituted by IDF Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, a warning round was fired back into Syria. We don't believe it caused injuries or damages".

At the same time Israel sent a message to the UN to let them know that if there is any more firing into Israel, that there will be a real response. As of right now it is important to know that Israel and Syria are not in a conflict situation.

Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel is keeping close watch of the conflict on the Syrian border and is prepared for all possibilities on that front.

This clash now comes days after Syrian tanks entered the demilitarized zone set up with the cease-fire agreement between Jerusalem and Damascus. The tanks drove into the Golan Heights area while defending against Syrian rebels, and remained there for several hours into the night.
