Instead, they move to delegitimize, disqualify and demonize their opponents through the impugning of motives, name-calling, and bullying -- all of which is intended to raise the cost of disagreement, and to stifle open conversation. This phenomenon is born on college campuses (Chapter 5: "Speech Police Academy"), weaponized in DC, and has begun to permeate all aspects of American life (Chapter 2: "Everything's a Thing").
