Congressional Ft. Hood Report Warns Against Violent Islamic Extremism, Political Correctness

the president and even some military leaders, this report -- overseen by Senators Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins -- sugarcoats nothing.  The executive summary spells out in no uncertain terms what motivated Hasan to commit his heinous act:

Although neither DoD nor the FBI had specific information concerning the time, place or nature of the attack, they collectively had sufficient information to have detected Hasan's radicalization to violent Islamic extremism but failed both to understand and act on it.

Page 31 of the report addresses the question of political correctness, and the role it played in enabling Hasan's radicalization to progress unchecked:

One of the officers who reported Hasan to superiors opined that Hasan was permitted to remain in service because of "political correctness" and ignorance of religious practices...We are concerned that exactly such worries about "political correctness" inhibited Hasan's superiors and colleagues who were deeply troubled by his behavior from taking the actions against him that could have prevented the attack at Fort Hood.

This document is thorough and pulls no punches.  Well done, Senators.
