Is the Obama Administration Pursuing a Stealth Amnesty?

With the nation's (and its reporters') eyes turned to health care and the comical global warming conference in Copenhagen, the Obama administration -- without involving Congress (notice a pattern here?) -- may be quietly changing immigration policy to in effect grant amnesty to illegal aliens.

While illegal border crossings are down due to stepped up efforts the past few years to enforce the rule of law, on two policies critical to curtailing illegal immigration, the Administration appears to have made law enforcement so lax as to grant amnesty.  First, the "no-match" rule, which required employers to take action when it was learned an employee did not have legal status, has been significantly watered down.  Second, and perhaps more troubling, work site raids are no longer resulting in deportation.  Instead, caught illegal aliens appear able to walk free and find a new place to work.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, fortunately has not taken his eye off these important policies.  Tomorrow, the Judiciary Committee will hold a Department of Homeland Security oversight hearing at which Secretary Napolitano will testify, and the good senator promises to press the Secretary on these issues.

Good luck Senator!
