A Dangerous Appeasement: U.S. and China

Underneath the flowery rhetoric of the Chinese Constitution exists a government which recognizes basic human rights only when it suits those in charge. So why is the United States choosing an appeasement policy?

From Townhall Magazine's EXCLUSIVE feature "A Counterfeit Constitution":

"In a study conducted in 2007, the United Nations determined that Falun Gong [a spiritual movement] practitioners all over China were unwillingly subjected to capture, torture, imprisonment and often executed via live organ harvesting. ...

"Negative affects from corruption run rampant in sectors with heavy government involvement, including financial services, government procurement, real estate and infrastructure. In the construction industries, for example, bosses will pay off officials so that they can cut corners on safety costs, and then when a major accident occurs and results in the death of workers, the same bosses pay off journalists not to report about it.

"Because of ... entangled interests, the United States and other developed nations have largely backed down from promoting democracy and human rights in China, instead hoping to cooperate in the name of trade, nuclear proliferation and green energy. In January of 2011, President Obama even held a state dinner at the White House to honor the visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao, despite China's continuously baiting international behavior."

"The People's Republic of China boasts the second largest economy in the world, yet Transparency International, a global coalition that combats corruption, ranked China 78th on its 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index out of 178 nations surveyed. According to a report done by Minxin Pei of the Carnegie Endowment in 2007, illicit activities and misspending of public funds cost at least 3 percent of gross domestic product." ~ from Erika Johnsen in A Counterfeit Constitution
