GOP 2012 Hopefuls Going on the Record About Defunding Planned Parenthood

The pro-life Susan B. Anthony List has collected statements from the long and short list of potential GOP presidential primary contenders supporting the removal of taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood.

Some of the statements were directly to SBA List, others were from previous public statements candidates had made.

The following rumored candidates are included in SBA's announcement, viewable here: Gov. Haley Barbour, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Gov. Sarah Palin, former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Gov. Mitt Romney, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Rep. Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, and former Sen. Rick Santorum.

Gov. Haley Barbour's statement is one of the clearest and most direct: "I support a halt to any federal funding going to America's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood."

Here's what a few others had to say:

Sarah Palin to SBA List:"I join Rep. Mike Pence and others of conscience and common sense who are leading the charge to end the taxpayer funding of the nation’s largest abortion provider. We recognize that not only is our country buried under Mt. McKinley-sized debt, but that the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and speak for themselves."

Herman Cain on radio show "Focal Point": "I absolutely would defund Planned Parenthood…people who know the history of Margaret Sanger, who started Planned Parenthood, they know that the intention was not to help young women who get pregnant to plan their parenthood. No — it was a sham to be able to kill black babies."
