"We have seen faith wielded as a tool to divide us from one another – as an excuse for prejudice and intolerance"
Mr. Obama, what faiths have wielded this tool? Who has been using it as a tool of prejudice and intolerance? Could it be Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Perhaps comments like this are intolerant and divide us: “We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost” and "“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, GD America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. GD America for treating our citizens as less than human. GD America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”
Obama goes on to say, "There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know."
How could a man who voted to deny medical treatments to babies who lived, despite a botched abortion, even utter these words. Another sign of the Audacity of Hypocrisy. We do know this Mr. Obama, however, as Amanda Carpenter most eloquently pointed out, you have a credibility issue with Infanticide.
"The goal of [White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships] will not be to favor one religious group over another – or even religious groups over secular groups. It will simply be to work on behalf of those organizations that want to work on behalf of our communities, and to do so without blurring the line that our founders wisely drew between church and state," declared Barack Obama.
Comments like this only perpetuate the myth that there is a mention of separation between church and state in the United States Constitution -- which is false. It was in a letter to the Danbury Baptists in which Thomas Jefferson talked about a "wall of separation." If we want to let someone have the opportunity to later describe their actions, can it be now that Norma (McCorvey) Wade's comments will solely overturn Roe V. Wade?
As David Limbaugh (author of the book Persecution: How Liberals are Waging War Against Christianity) said in an interview, "I don't think the Constitution forbids all endorsements of religion. The very first Congress of the United States passed the First Amendment, which included the Establishment Clause. The day after that, they declared a national day of prayer and thanksgiving. They had to have known what they were doing. They allocated funds, for the printing of Bibles for educating Indians in Christianity. They had officially paid chaplains from the very beginning. So there was never any attempt to completely divorce church and state...The first common schools in this country were founded explicitly for the instruction in Christianity. I can live with neutral values, but I don't know if it's possible, in the real world, to be completely devoid of values. The 10 Commandments have secular worth and historical significance as well as being a sacred Christian text."
I didn't become a Christian until many years later, when I moved to the South Side of Chicago after college. It happened not because of indoctrination or a sudden revelation, but because I spent month after month working with church folks who simply wanted to help neighbors who were down on their luck – no matter what they looked like, or where they came from, or who they prayed to. It was on those streets, in those neighborhoods, that I first heard God's spirit beckon me. It was there that I felt called to a higher purpose – His purpose.
Barack Obama's spent "month after month working with church folks," that church being the same one whose pastor was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. A man who made statements (like the ones referenced earlier) that included “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God" and "“The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.”
Should there be a wall of separation between Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright?
