Dublin Descends Into Chaos After Migrant Sexually Assaults 10-Year-Old Girl

Protesters in Dublin, Ireland, set a police car on fire and threw glass bottles at police officers after a 10-year-old Irish girl in state care was sexually assaulted by a migrant with a year-long standing deportation order.

The clash erupted outside of the City West Hotel, which no longer functions as a hotel but as a state-run facility to house migrants. More than 300 police officers were sent to quell the violence. Protesters were seen waving Irish flags and chanting,  "Get them out, get them out."

Police said protesters hurled hundreds of glass bottles and bricks at officers, even firing off fireworks, while a helicopter was targeted with laser pointers. Men on horseback reportedly charged police lines in an attempt to break through, prompting officers to deploy pepper spray in an effort to disperse the crowd.

Irish police said that six people were arrested, and one female officer suffered a foot injury.

"An Garda Síochána facilitates peaceful protests on a daily basis. This was obviously not a peaceful protest," Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said in a statement. "The actions this evening can only be described as thuggery. This was a mob intent on violence against Gardaí."
