The 2014 mid-term elections were memorable and historic. For obvious reasons. But like any election cycle, of course, there are always those painfully awkward, comically bad campaign ads that never leave you. To that end, here are (in my view) the five worst offending political advertisements of 2014, in no particular order.
(1) That time the abortion-rights group NARAL suggested Sen.-elect Cory Gardner (R-CO) was a condom-stealer:
(2) That time failed Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis used her opponent’s disability to curry favor with voters:
(3) That time the College Republican National Committee hired the worst actors in America to "help" Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL) win re-election, and failed miserably:
(4) That time Sen.-elect Joni Ernst (R-IA) released an ad entitled “squeal.” Need I say more?
(5) That time Senate hopeful Terri Lynn Land (R-MI) attempted to discredit the “war on women” charge…without uttering a word:
So there you have it. Of course, there may in fact be more awkward campaign spots out there somewhere that I have either forgotten or left out. But these are the ones, upon reflection, I remember being so utterly ridiculous -- and so poorly thought-out -- that they automatically merited inclusion. Happy New Year!
