Video: Charles Krauthammer Defends American Conservatism on “The Daily Show”

A few days ago syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer appeared on Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show” to promote his new book, “Things That Matter.” During the segment, Krauthammer pushed back against the host’s suggestion that American conservatism doesn’t have “any of the responsibility of governance” -- which is to say, as a philosophy, it's completely hostile to all things government. Not true. He argued that conservative ideas, especially ones put forth by Paul Ryan and others, seek only to improve America's entitlements programs (not eliminate them), which in their current form are unsustainable. One of the failures of liberalism, he argued, is that Democrats refuse to adapt to the nation’s changing demographics -- or account for groundbreaking innovations in technology. This, he added, is the surest road to insolvency.
