Paul Ryan: Women “Hit Hardest” Under Barack Obama

After watching this clip (which is a few days old, as it happens) I am absolutely convinced that no one can better articulate the shortcomings -- and failures -- of this administration’s economic policies than Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan:

The poverty rate among women is at a seventeen year high. Over five million women have just left the workforce. Fewer women are working today than when he took office. And so, of the people who have gotten hit the hardest…it’s women.

This is an excellent answer and a devastating indictment of the last four years. Meanwhile, the Left is utterly obsessed with painting Mitt Romney as a misogynistic plutocrat -- a man who disparages women and seeks to ban contraception and abortion in all fifty states. They’re desperate -- and for good reason. But the truth is that the real threat to women is not Mitt Romney; rather, it’s four more years of Obamanomics. Today, for example, women are less likely to be collecting a paycheck or actively seeking employment opportunities.

Why? Because the president’s misguided policies have failed to jump-start the economy and create jobs.

While millions of Americans have been collecting unemployment checks because some successful businesses aren't hiring, Obama has profligately wasted millions of taxpayer dollars supporting fledgling “green energy” companies. When some of those companies failed -- unsurprisingly -- much of the money that the taxpayers "invested" was lost and will never be seen again. In addition to supporting that industry, Obama wasted much of his first term passing Obamacare, a deeply unpopular and expensive new entitlement program -- and one that the Congressional Budget Office now estimates will raise taxes on nearly six million Americans.

JOBS AND ECONOMY

It would have been far better for Obama to spend his first-term fighting for jobs, rather than supporting his own ideological agenda.

In any case, and as the Boston Herald notes, it seems to me that women have been overwhelmingly concerned about one issue in particular throughout this election cycle. Can you guess which one? Surprise:

Watching the debate Tuesday night, and listening to Obama and his team, you might conclude that birth control and abortion are the most important issues on women’s minds.

Not true.

According to a survey by Pew Research Center, more women (88 percent) said the economy was very important. This was higher than any other issue. Is it more likely that women or men pay the household bills?

Who feels the pain every week as they look at the price of gasoline that has risen from $1.84 a gallon to $3.75 per gallon since Obama took office? Women.

Of the 18 issues included in the survey, abortion ranked 15th, with 44 percent of women saying it was very important. Birth control ranked 17th, with 40 percent of women saying it was very important.

It’s the economy; it’s jobs. Without a robust economy and without jobs, it’s hard for anyone to get ahead.

Romney and Ryan need to continue making the prevailing economic arguments against re-electing President Barack Obama. It’s working.
