ICYMI: Liz Warren Offers List of Her National Emergencies

President Trump believes that building a wall on our southern border to stem the tide of illegal immigration, and the human trafficking, and drugs that often comes with it, is worthy of a national emergency. Democrats disagree. If it was up to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who's running to win the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, she'd use a national emergency for the following items instead.

"Oh, let’s do a list," Warren said during an appearance on "The Late Late Show" on Tuesday. "Climate change, gun violence, student loan debt, right off the top. That’s what we ought to be working on. And we ought to be working on it together. Congress, the president, as a country, those are things we should be working on."

This is precisely why Republicans like Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) were concerned about Trump's action in the first place. If Trump decides his border wall justifies a national emergency, who's to say a President Ocasio-Cortez wouldn't declare one for her Green New Deal? In the same breath he said Trump's declaration violated the Constitution.

"We have a crisis at our southern border, but no crisis justifies violating the Constitution,” Rubio said in a statement. “Today’s national emergency is border security. But a future president may use this exact same tactic to impose the Green New Deal.”

Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), however, supported the president in whatever route he chose to take to get that border barrier built.

By the way, construction has commenced.
