Court Upholds Texas Pro-life Law, Clinics Brace for Closures

Texas State Senator Wendy Davis spoke on the Senate floor for 12 hours. Advocates stormed the state capitol. Yet, after several attempts by pro-abortion activists to halt the pro-life bill H.B. 2 in Texas, an appeals court has just upheld the legislation. This means the number of abortion clinics in the Lone Star State is about to drastically decline, from 40 to seven.

In June of last year, Governor Rick Perry signed House Bill 2 into law. The bill’s main provisions outlawed abortion after 20 weeks, called for clinics to raise their safety standards and required abortionists to obtain admitting privileges to local hospitals. Because of these strict regulations, several clinics would have to be shuttered.

After defeating both Davis and her rowdy pro-abortion fans, the legislation experienced another obstacle this summer. Responding to a lawsuit waged by the Center for Reproductive Rights, U.S. District Court Judge Lee Yeakel ruled in August that the law was too much of a “burden” on women seeking abortions.

However, that proved to be a small hiccup in the legislation’s progress. On Thursday, an appeals court upheld H.B. 2, meaning several abortion clinics may have just seen their last customers.

LifeNews reports that this pro-life victory will save upwards of 10,000 babies from abortion.
