How Patriotic Is Your State?

For the second year in a row, WalletHub has named Virginia as the most patriotic state in the union. Alaska, South Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia made up the rest of the top five, and Illinois, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey brought up the rear.

States were ranked by "Military Engagement" (percent of the population enlisted in the military, veterans per capita) as well as "Civic Engagement" (percent of of the population that voted in 2012, volunteering rate, and civics requirements at school). Alaska had the highest "Military Engagement" rank for the second year in a row, and Minnesota bested neighboring state Wisconsin for the highest "Civic Engagement" rank.

Here's an interactive map of how each state fared:

How'd your favorite state do? Do you agree with WalletHub's assessment that Virginia is the most patriotic? Is New Jersey being unfairly maligned? Let us know in the comments.
