Yesterday, Matt wrote about two terrorist attacks in Israel, where five people were killed in separate attacks. Today, we have more information about one of the victims, 18-year-old Ezra Schwartz of Sharon, Mass.
Schwartz was spending a gap year in Israel as a participant of the MASA Israel program. He was a 2015 graduate of Maimonides School in Brookline, MA, and was taking the year off to study and live in Israel before entering college.
A statement from Maimonides School offered condolences to the Schwartz family:
It is with a broken heart that we share with you the very sad news that Ezra Schwartz, z"l, a Maimonides School graduate of the Class of 2015, was murdered in a terrorist attack in Israel earlier today. Ezra was spending his gap year studying in Israel. Today we are all part of the Maimonides School family and we suffered an unbearable loss. We offer our deepest condolences to Ezra's family, classmates and friends. May the Schwartz family and the Maimonides School family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
Schwartz was delivering food to IDF soldiers when the van he was riding in was shot at by a Palestinian man armed with a machine gun. The man proceeded to ram his vehicle into the van. He passed away shortly after.
A horrific and senseless tragedy. May he rest in peace.
