Obama: Leading Public Opinion to Small Government

Obama: Leading Public Opinion to Small Government
Obviously, it's news that a USA Today/Gallup poll shows that voters prefer Governor Romney over President Obama to handle the economy, reduce the deficit and create jobs.

It's even more notable given that the poll was -- not registered voters, not likely voters -- but adults.  That means that Romney's lead is likely higher among likely voters than this poll reveals.

Note also that the poll results suggest Obama's Bain attacks have come up empty.

What was of particular interest was the following:

A record number of Americans express skepticism about the activist role of government Obama espouses; 61% say the government is trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses. That's the highest number since Gallup began asking the question in 1992. (emphasis mine)

Think about it: President Obama has far surpassed Bill Clinton's power to persuade Americans of the virtues of limited government.  Thank you, Mr. President.

Finally, even the President's likability -- where he has long been deemed to have an advantage over Governor Romney -- is decreasing.    As I predicted back in May, it seems that the President's increasingly nasty and divisive campaign is, in fact, degrading his brand as the guy who promised to unite Americans.
