Uniquely Immune?

I know very little about Elizabeth Birnbaum, the MMS head fired this morning.   And of course, at a time like this -- with the President scrambling politically -- it's clear that he needed a scalp to show the MSM at his press conference today.

But what has been interesting to me has been reports of the only substantive criticism the President has, so far, made of the MMS, as detailed in this report from Fox:

President Obama [has] criticized . . . the cozy relationship between regulators and oil companies and have vowed to reform MMS, which both regulates the industry and collects billions in royalties from it.

All well and good -- but is the President uniquely immune himself from the influence of "cozy relationships"?  Just wondering -- because, of course, he jetted off to a high-dollar fundraiser ($50,000 per couple) with Wall Street bigwigs even as the financial regulation bill was being finalized.
