An Ominous Trend

Fewer phenomena are worse for the long-term economic health of America --and the independence of its people -- than the one noted in USA Today:

Paychecks from private business shrank to their smallest share of personal income in U.S. history during the first quarter of this year . . .

At the same time, government-provided benefits — from Social Security, unemployment insurance, food stamps and other programs — rose to a record high during the first three months of 2010. . . .

The result is a major shift in the source of personal income from private wages to government programs.

Keep it up, and you know what we get?  An ever-expanding government, a growing deficit (because private taxpayers can't subsidize all the government growth), and an entitled, needy, dependent population.

Not exactly what our Founding Fathers had in mind.
