The President's Sales Job

If Democrats really felt good about what they were doing this weekend, President Obama wouldn't have to offer up this over-the-top sales job.

Setting aside all the false promises, partisan jabs, and "thou dost protest too much" assurances, of particular note is the following:

“You talk to folks, you are under enormous pressure, you are getting robo-calls,” Mr. Obama said, “I know the pressure you are under. I get a few comments made about me. I don’t know if you notice. I have been in your shoes. I know what it’s like to take a tough vote.

But does he, really?  All he's done is to take the "progressive" position on everything, amassing the most liberal voting record in the US Senate as he represented a comfortably blue state in the US Senate (and before that, a safely Democratic seat in the Illinois Senate -- nonetheless voting "present" over and over). 

It's tempting to wonder, as House members in swing districts listen, if anyone is wondering:  Exactly where does this guy get the moral authority to lecture me?
