"Me" Is the One We've Been Waiting For?

According to a report in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette excerpted by Politico, President Obama has fingered himself as the reason that 2010 won't turn out to be a disaster for Democrats

a la 1994.

Retiring Rep. Marion Berry of Arkansas reported on the administration's response to Democrats' worries that a 1994-style wind was beginning to blow:

"[The White House] just kept telling us how good it was going to be. The president himself, when that was brought up in one group, said, ‘Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me.’"  (emphasis added)

Remarkable, isn't that, coming from a "me" who apparently failed to move voters to his side despite impassioned personal appeals in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts?

This is another example of the phenomenon I wrote about yesterday.  For virtually all his life (certainly, all his adult life!) the President has been enfolded in a soft left-wing cocoon where his status as a brilliant and beautiful "golden boy" has never been questioned -- he's wonderful just because he's himself.  And apparently he's managed to internalize this view of himself, to a degree that may be about to come  back to bite him -- and the rest of his party -- in the rear end.
