What "Unmeddling" Gets You

Even after taking a pass on the opportunity to speak out for freedom on behalf of Iranians in the street, President Obama is nonetheless being accused by Ahmadinejad of "interference."

Trying to avoid such an accusation has, of course, been the stated rationale of the President's studied refusal to offer more than half-hearted statements about the Iranian elections. And yet -- gasp! -- the accusation has come anyway.

Perhaps it hasn't occurred to Obama yet, but the fact is that Ahmadinejad and his ilk aren't particularly bound by the facts in their interpretation of events, and their statements about them. Nor (in contrast to the American press) do they hang on the President's every word and statement with something akin to a schoolgirl crush.

Has anyone heard of the old saying, "Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb"? If the mullahs are going to charge America with interference no matter what we do, why not do something to encourage those trying to replace a regime that is openly our enemy?
