"Good Students" and Great Presidents

My Townhall column (here) discusses one of the theories that would explain Barack Obama's seeming post-election transformation from a left-liberal apostle of "hope" and "change" into a centrist pragmatist that has, so far, chosen a surprisingly moderate cabinet.  Could it be that Obama is less committed to any particular set of principles than he is to "success," however he defines that term?
