Conservatives Against Newt

Conservatives with impeccable credentials -- National Review and Ann Coulter among them -- have come out in opposition to the candidacy of Newt Gingrich.

There's no doubt (and no conservative does doubt) that Gingrich would be an enormous improvement on the current occupant of The White House.  The question is whether he has the qualities that are necessary to prevail in a general election, and whether, if elected, he will be in any better position actually to deliver on the policies he's propounding than someone less given to bombast.

I've made no secret of the fact that I believe Mitt Romney, notwithstanding some obvious flaws, is the superior candidate.  In the end, however, what unites Republicans is greater than any division . . . and that is the absolute imperative of preventing another four years of ruinous Obama policies.
