Failed politician Stacey Abrams wants to do away with the electoral college. Her reasoning? The electoral college is a "classist, racist system whose time has passed and we need to get rid of it," so it's the same argument the left makes to get rid of everything they don't like. Naturally, Abrams attacked the centuries old constitutional system with the cast of ABC's "The View" on Monday morning.
Abrams claims the founding founders created the electoral system as a racist system designed somehow to prevent blacks from voting. To make her point, Abrams repeated the historically illiterate lie about the three-fifths compromise being the iniquitous idea of racist Southerners. Of course, it was Southerners who wanted slaves to be fully counted for purposes of representation in Congress and Northerners who opposed it. But such facts only get in the way of leftwing demagogues like Stacey Abrams.
Abrams then claimed the electoral college was simultaneously designed to prevent poor white men from voting in the North.
"The classist part was that in the North, too many immigrants from parts of Europe that people weren't excited about, too many poor people, too many poor white men were trying to vote," Abrams alleged, "and so the Northerners said, 'well, we don't want people who aren't equipped to make this decision to be selecting the executive of our nation,' so the electoral college said, 'yes you can speak up, but we'll decide if you're right.' It's a classist racist system whose time has passed and we need to get rid of it."
In Abrams' mind, the electoral college is a racist system somehow capable of being racist towards both blacks and whites. In reality, the founders created a constitutional republic designed to safeguard against a radical democracy of any kind. Radical democracies are known to trample upon the rights of minorities and can fall prey to mob-like tactics currently in vogue on the radical left, which is why leftists want to get rid of it.
Abrams says she supports the National Popular Vote because, as Abrams puts it, it would "basically jerry rig the system and go around the Constitution." And while Abrams claims she would prefer to "fix it at the source" with a constitutional amendment, Abrams said simply "I don't have that kind of time."
Americans find progressive ideas to be repugnant, so leftists like Abrams need to rework our constitutional republic in order to force their will on the American people. Abrams recently announced that she plans on running for president in the future, so she's going to need the vote of every felon, illegal immigrant, child and dead person to count if she's ever going to have a shot at winning the White House.
