Here's How Hunter Biden's Child Support Case Can Impact What We Learn About His Ties to Burisma

A little more than a week ago, a DNA test confirmed that Hunter Biden is the father of a child born in August 2018. The mother, Luden Roberts, reportedly worked at Mpire Gentlemen's Club in Washington, D.C., where Biden frequented. That's how the two allegedly met. Roberts has, understandably, gone after Biden for child support, health care and legal fees.

According to the Daily Mail, Biden filed a motion in the Arkansas Circuit Court of Independence for a protective order to shield his financial records from being made public.

"This matter has been highly publicized with numerous media outlets contacting the parties' counsel on a continuing basis," the filing said. "Due to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the parties involved in this matter, it is in the interest of justice and necessary for a protective order to be put in place."

"The likelihood that [Biden's] private records will be used in an inappropriate or malicious manner for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with these proceedings is exceedingly high and should not be tolerated by the court," the filing stated.

Biden's attorneys argued that releasing that financial information would create "undue prejudice, annoyance, embarrassment, and/or oppression."

Not only does Biden want the protective order put in place but he also wants the court to delay a December 2nd hearing until the order is put in place. His team has argued that he can't gather his financials completely in time for the scheduled hearing date.

What's interesting, however, is Biden signed a sworn statement saying he has been unemployed since May 2019 and has incurred major debt from a divorce with his ex-wife, Kathleen Biden. Accountants are currently calculating just how much debt he has. Once it's determined, that information will be turned over to the court.

"For the aforementioned reasons, I cannot complete an Affidavit of Financial Means at the time," Biden said in his affidavit.

In addition to paying child support, Roberts wants Biden to help with medical costs and cover $11,000 in legal expenses. She also believes the baby should be provided with Secret Service detail because of the child's relationship to former Vice President Joe Biden. Roberts also wants the court to seal the child's identity out of fear for the baby's safety. Specifically, she cites the former vice president's political campaign as a reason for concern.

As of now, we don't even know whether or not the baby is a boy or a girl. Roberts' legal team is simply referring to the child as "Baby Doe."

"Baby Doe's paternal grandfather, Joe Biden, is seeking the nomination of the Democratic Party for President of the United States of America. He is considered by some to be the person most likely to win his party's nomination and challenge President Trump on the ballet in 2020," Roberts' team said. "The members of the Biden family either are protected or eligible to be protected by the United States Secret Service as a direct result of Joe Biden's political status."

"Baby Doe's paternity could put the child and those close to the child at risk of harm for the same reasons the Biden family is protected by the United States Secret Service," the mother's team said.

Should the court decide to place the protective order, Biden's "business ventures, investments, expenses, taxes or personal property valuations" will also be shielded from public scrutiny, the Daily Mail reported.

It will be interesting to see how the court rules in this matter. Should the court shield all of Biden's finances, this could make a huge difference in the Burisma controversy. It would keep the public from further scrutinizing the financial benefits he reaped from his father being vice president. After all, he was making at least $50,000 a month from Burisma. Who knows what else we'd discover once his financials dropped.
