Beto Had A Few Choice Words About Booker's Desire For A Federal Gun Licensing Plan

A few weeks ago, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) proposed making gun owners obtain federal firearms license. He said it's because “a gun license demonstrates that a person is eligible and can meet certain safety and training standards necessary to own a gun.”

Three term Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) disagreed with Booker. He explained his reasoning to Fox News following an event in New Hampshire, where he embarked on a three-day tour across the state.

“I come from, just like New Hampshire, a very proud gun-owning state. People who use firearms responsibly for hunting, for self-protection, for collection," O'Rourke explained.

Instead of wanting every gun owner to obtain a gun license on a federal level, O'Rourke believes there are other, more plausible solutions to curbing gun violence.

“I think relying on the responsibility and accountability that gun owners feel -- matching that with universal background checks, stopping the sales of weapons of war, red flag laws -- that’s the perfect way to complement the responsible gun ownership that we see in this country right now," he said.

It's very, very interesting that O'Rourke is condemning Booker's proposal. He must know that a national license registration would alienate the Second Amendment community (not that we're really supporting him anyways) and that it would be challenged in court.

At least Beto was right about one thing: gun owners are law-abiding and responsible. It doesn't make him suddenly pro-gun. It just means he even realizes when the crazies sound extra crazies.
