As you may have heard, Sen. Mel Martinez has decided not to seek reelection in the year 2010, setting the state for a contentious, expensive battle to fill his open seat.

Any Floridian harboring senate ambitions is probably laying groundwork now for fundraising and other campaign infrastructure before an opponent can soak up talented staffers and donor pools.
